Roofing industry

Where roofingquietly loses money

Manual inspections, slow estimates, reactive maintenance and fragmented asset records create costs long before they appear on the final invoice. INSUS applies computer vision, document automation and predictive analytics to the imagery, plans and history roofing teams already have.

  • 01

    Faster inspections & estimates

Turn existing roof imagery and building plans into inspection findings, measurements and quotations without the usual manual delay.

  • 02

    Fewer costly surprises

Score visible defects and deterioration from the photos and records you already keep, before they become emergency repairs, callbacks or project delays.

  • 03

    More control across every roof

Bring condition, inspection and maintenance files together so teams can decide from one record, not from memory of last time.

Across the roof lifecycle

Better information for better roofing decisions

From inspection and estimation to maintenance, claims and asset records, roofing teams need accurate information at the right time. INSUS works from imagery, plans, inspection files and operational history you already hold.

Existing roof imagery used to review condition from the officeInspection

See roof condition before it becomes a problem

Run computer vision on drone, satellite or photo files you already have to identify visible defects, document findings and score roof condition without relying entirely on a slow, inconsistent walk-over.

Measure and quote with greater confidence

Turn satellite imagery, drone data or building plans you already have into roof measurements, material takeoffs, labour estimates and professional quotations without waiting days to build the estimate.

Know which roofs need attention next

Bring inspection history, weather records and maintenance files together to identify deterioration, prioritize work and plan maintenance before failures become expensive surprises.

The biggest roofing costs often start as small problems that are detected too late.

Better visibility can change when your team acts. INSUS brings together existing imagery, inspection history and AI to help roofing teams identify issues earlier, estimate work faster, prioritize maintenance and make better decisions across every roof.

Industry figures

The scale of what is being decided

Four external figures, each with its source. Nothing on this page is an estimate we made up. Where we cannot cite a number, we describe the situation in words instead.

Waste

~11M t

of asphalt-shingle waste is generated in the US each year, on the estimate EPA still carries in WARM. Most of it is tear-off from re-roofing; the plant still has to live with its own scrap.

Plant scrap

~1M t

of that stream is estimated as waste from roofing manufacturers — trim, off-spec and plant scrap, not tear-off from roofs. That is the part a coating line can still change.

RAS

641kt

of recycled asphalt shingles were used in US asphalt mixtures in 2024 — 20% less than 2023, and still well below the 2014 peak. Plant scrap and tear-off have fewer pavement homes than they used to.

Quality

Spot

checks are how many coating lines still confirm granule coverage, colour blend and surface defects while the rest of the web has already been coated, cooled and cut.

Typical plant practice. Varies with line speed and inspection method.

Common problems

Problems that cost you before you notice

None of these show up as a single alarm. They show up in the claim file, the stalled quote, and the CPR deadline tracked product family by product family.

  1. Manual roof inspections are slow and hard to defend

Sending someone onto the roof to visually check for damage is slow, expensive and inconsistent. Claims wait on a report that often takes days, and the defect that was missed is the one that becomes the callback. The photos from the last visit are often already on file.

    See: Roof Inspection Intelligence
  2. Quotes wait on a hand measurement

Estimators spend hours sometimes days measuring roofs by hand. Small takeoff errors become change orders. The lead goes cold while the quotation is still being built — even when satellite, drone or plan files already exist.

    See: Roof Measurement & Quotation
  3. CPR deadlines are still tracked product family by product family

Declarations of Performance and staggered environmental disclosures do not share one date. Shingles, membranes and underlayments can sit on different harmonized-standard timelines, and Digital Product Passport detail is still being finalized.

FAQ

Questions that come up in every first call

A practical look at what INSUS needs, where it fits and what your team can expect.

The work that fits is remote and digital: computer vision on imagery you already have, measurement and quotation from satellite, drone or plan files, and CPR documentation from the product catalog and Declarations of Performance you already keep. We work from those records. We do not add field equipment, and we do not make a binding CE-marking determination.

Usually yes. If you already have roof photos, drone or satellite files, plans, inspection history, or product documentation, that is enough to start. Where a genuine gap exists — no usable files — we say so rather than assuming new capture.

Not necessarily. INSUS is designed to work alongside existing inspection, estimating, maintenance and project workflows. The aim is to reduce manual work and improve the information available to your team, while keeping the people responsible for the roof in control of the final decision.

It depends on the use case. Roof imagery, drone footage, satellite imagery, building plans, inspection records, maintenance history and project files can all be useful. You do not need every data source on day one. We first identify what is already available, what is reliable and what is actually needed for the problem you want to solve.

Yes. The approach is built around the systems and files you already use rather than requiring you to rebuild your stack. Integration is defined during the assessment.

No system should promise that. Computer vision can help identify and classify visible conditions from suitable imagery, but image quality, roof type, weather and the nature of the defect all affect what can be detected. INSUS is intended to give teams a more consistent first assessment and better evidence — not remove professional inspection and judgement where they are required.

No. INSUS is designed to support the people doing the work. AI can reduce repetitive inspection and measurement tasks, surface potential issues earlier and organize information faster, while experienced professionals remain responsible for validation, decisions and work execution.

Yes. A focused starting point is often the most practical way to prove value. You can begin with a specific inspection workflow, estimating process or CPR documentation range, measure the results and then expand once the approach has been validated.
